Florida Partners With Emergency RV for Hurricane Survivors’ Housing
According to a report from Florida’s Voice, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a partnership with EmergencyRV to provide temporary housing for Floridians displaced by Hurricane Isaias as the state seeks federal assistance for storm recovery.
The initiative will prioritize eligible residents whose homes sustained the most significant damage, giving them a place to stay while they rebuild. DeSantis said travel trailers could allow residents to remain on their properties while their homes are repaired.
“This initiative will prioritize eligible residents whose homes sustained the most significant damage, providing a safe place to stay while they work to rebuild and recover,” DeSantis said.
Residents who believe they may qualify can submit a form at emergencyrv.org. Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation Jared Perdue, who also spoke at the news conference, said eligibility criteria would be published soon.
DeSantis said the state would support the nonprofit by providing usable trailers retained from previous storms and could seek additional units. He said the program would supplement federal housing assistance if that aid is approved.
The announcement came after Florida submitted a request to the Trump administration for a major disaster declaration. The request seeks public assistance for 15 counties and individual assistance for eight: Bay, Escambia, Gulf, Holmes, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton and Washington.
If approved, public assistance would help reimburse eligible government recovery expenses, including debris removal and emergency protective measures. Depending on what is authorized, funding could also support repairs to roads, bridges, utilities and other public infrastructure.
