The National Marine Manufacturers Association has been working with the Outdoor Recreation to establish as many state recreation offices as possible.
The country added six such offices last year, bringing the total to 16, according to ORR executive director Jessica Wahl, who expects that number to grow to as many as 24 by the end of the year.
The resolution, sponsored by Republican state Sen. Blake Doriot, outlines the priorities for the Office of Outdoor Recreation Development and encourages the office to be established within the Indiana Destination Development Corp.
The priorities for the office include increasing outdoor recreation-based economic development, tourism, and ecotourism; promoting the growth of the outdoor recreation economy; and promoting the health and social benefits of outdoor recreation, according to the NMMA.
Now that the resolution has passed both bodies, it is up to IDDC to determine if the office will be established.
