RVeterans: Colby Cannon

Managing Partner, Vogt RV World, 26 years in the industry

Colby Cannon started his tenure at Vogt RV World in 1998 as a service department trainee. Today he is the managing partner. He’s worn many hats at the company, including service manager, sales manager and general manager. No matter the role, Colby’s work ethic has always set him apart.

Colby has maintained a grinding schedule at multiple Vogt RV dealerships in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He works directly with the president of the company helping to coordinate and run fixed operations, sales, marketing and administration meetings. Plus, he often attends different meetings and events to help Vogt RV World stay ahead of the market. He’s also trained dozens of people within his organization.

Despite his busy schedule, Colby has held a Monday morning Bible study for years for any Vogt employees and other industry representatives who wish to attend. Through these meetings he’s become an unofficial mentor to people who need guidance or just a listening ear.

Community service is a top priority for Colby, too. He’s organized efforts to help veterans and military families, as well as Christmastime charity drives for Samaritan’s Purse.

Leaders at Vogt RV World consider Colby’s contributions invaluable, so when Colby left the company in 2015 to start his own venture, they were determined to get him back. He ran a successful business for a few years, but eventually sold it and returned to Vogt. In the last five years he’s helped Vogt grow from three to five stores.

“His job experience allows us to strengthen any department as needed with his expertise and involvement,” Aaron Vogt, president of Vogt RV World, says of Colby.

“He is simply a person that works very hard, certainly can demand a job well done, but is willing to insert himself in time and effort to help you succeed,” Aaron says. “His is a shining light to this world!”

When asked what he’ll remember most about his time in the RV industry, Colby says, “The biggest joy has come from people and relationships, from friendships forged with manufacturers, colleagues, and most importantly, our customers.”

Colby doesn’t take lightly the role he gets to play in the lives of others.

“We are in a unique position to help people fulfill their dreams, while bringing families and friends together to explore this beautiful country,” he says. “At the end of the day, we get to sell fun, and for that I will always be grateful to this wonderful thing we call the RV industry.”
