Total RV shipments for 2010 reached 242,300 units, up 45.6 percent from 166,400 units shipped in 2009. Seasonally adjusted, the December total represents an annualized rate of more than 295,000 units, the best monthly showing since April 2008.
For December, wholesale RV shipments rose to 18,300 units, 36.5 percent greater than November 2010 and 30.7 percent greater than in December 2009, according to recent statistics from RVIA.
"The strong peformance of the RV market in December underscores the improved level of dealer confidence in the retail environment for the upcoming year," said Bill Baker, senior director of communications for RVIA. "This past month's shipment increase along with the nearly 50 percent growth in shipments in 2010 indicates that the RV industry remains firmly on the road to recovery."
Towable RV shipments for December increased to 16,400 units, up 32.3 percent over the same month in 2009. For all of 2010, towable shipments reached 217,100 units, up 42 percent from 152,500 units in 2009.
Meanwhile, motorhome shipments for December totaled 1,900 units, a gain of 18.8 percent over December 2009. For all of 2010, motorhome shipments reached 25,200 units, up 81 percent from the 13,900 units shipped in 2009.
