Go RVing: Why Fishing & RVing Pair Perfectly
Go RVing tracks and reports on emerging travel and consumer behavior trends in RV Industry Association newsletters, providing actionable opportunities for brands to integrate into their marketing campaigns. One of August’s travel trends focuses on RVing and fishing.
New data from the Outdoor Industry Association shows a strong connection between fishing and camping — two outdoor activities that naturally complement the RV lifestyle.
The numbers are up: Camping is the largest crossover activity among fishing participants at 45% (up 7% since 2015) and 78% of anglers say they go camping when they go fishing. And per Go RVing’s 2025 RV Owner Demographic Profile, 47% of RV owners go fishing when RVing.
The data shows that the entire fishing experience, from breakfast, the early-morning launch, dinner over the campfire and hitting the sack for a good night’s rest is a complete and holistic marketing opportunity for RVing brands.

What Marketers Can Do Now:
- Build the “Fishing + Camping” connection into content: Create social series, blog posts and email content around RV-friendly fishing destinations, gear and gear storage guides, amenities that make fishing trips easier, and weekend fishing itineraries.
- Let anglers tell the story: Partner with fishing-focused influencers and your customers to document the whole experience—not just the catch.
- Check out Go RVing’s recent collaboration with Field & Stream and fishing creator Ryan Izquierdo (Ryan Iz Fishing) on their YouTube vlog where they fish gar on Texas’ Trinity River and enjoy the RV amenities before and after long days on the water.
- Pitch the relationship — not just the RV: Use the OIA data as a story hook for pitching outdoor media: “Nearly 8 in 10 anglers camp when they fish — here’s why RVs are built for the combination.” Pair data with a customer testimonial who can demonstrate the experience firsthand or a feature showcasing why RVs are built for the fish-RV combo.
The Takeaway
Fishing may be the goal of the vacation but camping is the vehicle offering comfort, space, and storage outside of casting lines. Marketing the two together could help RV brands reach a highly engaged outdoor audience who might consider RV ownership for their next trip.
