Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) recognized the owners years of investment and thoughtful expansion as the Las Cruces KOA transitions from a KOA Journey to a KOA Holiday designation.
The new designation reflects the campground’s expanded amenities, accommodations and recreational offerings, which have enhanced the guest experience and broadened its appeal as a camping destination in southern New Mexico.
Set against the wonderful views of the Organ Mountains and Mesilla Valley, the Las Cruces KOA Holiday combines the convenience travelers expect from a roadside stop with the atmosphere and amenities of a resort-style retreat. Located just 45 minutes from White Sands National Park and minutes from Old Mesilla, the campground offers guests an opportunity to experience the beauty and outdoor recreation of the Southwest while enjoying a boutique-style camping experience.
“Through years of investment and enhancements, our campground has evolved, and we’re excited that our KOA brand designation now aligns with the amenities and experiences available to our campers,” said Chris Scianna, an owner of the Las Cruces KOA Holiday. “This new brand designation reflects the community, amenities, and atmosphere we’ve worked so hard to create.”
Since purchasing the campground in 2020, ownership has completed an extensive transformation of the property, adding hundreds of trees and shrubs, more than 3,000 feet of rock walls, paved roads, remodeled RV sites, upgraded Wi-Fi and numerous guest-focused amenities throughout the campground. Major additions include a new bathhouse with private family-style restrooms, ADA-compliant facilities, a boutique-style camp store, a community room, a luxury outdoor camping kitchen, a large KampK9 with complimentary dog wash station, multiple gathering spaces, community fire pits, new KOA Patio RV sites, and remodeled sites featuring upgraded furniture and fire experiences. The campground also recently purchased a Deluxe Cabin, with plans to add a second by year’s end.
Guests at the Las Cruces KOA Holiday enjoy complimentary morning coffee and pastries, outdoor community areas, a seasonal pool, playground, basketball court, corn hole, tetherball, and resort-style restrooms, all while taking in the views of the surrounding mountains and desert. Ownership has placed a strong emphasis on hospitality and personalized service, creating memorable guest experiences from arrival to departure.
“Seven out of 10 times, guests either extend their stay or wish they could stay longer because of the experience here,” said Chris Scianna. “We’ve focused on creating spaces where campers can gather, connect, and enjoy the outdoors together.”
The campground’s commitment to guest satisfaction is reflected in its consistently strong Net Promoter Score, which climbed from 77 in 2020 to as high as 96 in recent years, alongside record-breaking camper nights and continued reservation growth.
Campgrounds like the Las Cruces KOA Holiday have a significant economic and cultural impact on local communities. According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers injected $66 billion into local economies in 2025, with the average camper spending more than $200 daily while camping. Campers are looking to experience the history and culture of local regions, 33% say they are interested in visiting small towns, and another 38% are drawn to historic sites.
