LCI Annex Gets Approval

The Goshen City Council is teed up to kick off 2018 with talks over a plan for a small annexation that could have a big impact on the area.

This story by Aimee Ambrose originally appeared in The Goshen News.

The council voted almost unanimously Tuesday night to pass the first reading of an ordinance to annex a strip of about 330 acres of land along a private road at 16629 C.R. 36, southeast of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Lippert Components would use the annexed property as part of plans to build a new industrial complex for light manufacturing, research and development, and other potential uses, Goshen’s community development director, Mark Brinson, has said.

After the ordinance vote, the council approved a resolution to file a petition for annexation as part of the process.

Councilman Edward Ahlersmeyer, R-2nd District, voluntarily recused himself from the discussion and didn’t vote because of his status as a Lippert employee.

A public hearing on the issue is set for Jan. 16 as the city prepares to undergo the next steps in annexation.
