Review: The Jayco Terrain Is a New Luxury Adventure Van

There’s a new luxury van on the market called the Jayco Terrain 19Y that is likely to give some serious competition to the current crop of vehicles created to pair rugged adventure with creature comforts.
Jayco is owned by THOR Industries, which also owns Airstream. It’s been around since the late 1960s, a pioneer in those pop-up campers that your parents or grandparents may have owned. They have decades of experience in designing living spaces in trailers and motorhomes. With the new Terrain, they’ve entered the game for luxury vans aimed at millennials and empty nesters seeking high-end vans with off-road capabilities.
Thanks to the pandemic, the demand for such vehicles has been enormous, as Americans continue to hit the open road in search of adventure and breathing space. Some are weekend warriors, while others are in full embrace of the #VanLife movement, looking for a conveyance created for remote work and recreation. What these folks have in common are deep pockets for a vehicle that, in this case, starts at $201,000.
