Casper’s Sonny’s RV will remain family-owned after a potential sale to Illinois-based Camping World was called off.
After announcing the potential sale last July, Sonny’s RV General Manager and owner Mike Rone said the family ultimately decided to remain local.
“They painted this beautiful picture for us that this would be great for the employees, great for the community, and after months of negotiations we dug a bit deeper and found that it wasn’t the best fit for our community,” said Rone in a phone interview with Oil City News. “We just decided to pass on the deal, and we’re going to stay here and continue to make this thing grow.”
Rone said future plans for Sonny’s RV include adding employees and product lines. The business employs 25 to 30 people during the busy months, he said. Eventually they hope to add another five to 10 as new inventory lines and product expansions are added.
Sonny’s RV opened in 1999 on a small lot, eventually growing to its current 15-acre site with a 15,000-square-foot showroom that opened in 2005. The business has been involved in numerous local nonprofits, such as Make-A-Wish, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming and the Child Development Center. Rone said they will continue their involvement in the community.
