Winners of the “Best Park Award” for 2026 were presented April 30 during the association’s annual Outdoor Hospitality Convention & Expo at the Rosen Shingle Springs Resort in Orlando.

Sugarloaf Key RV Resort & Cottages offers 65 full-hookup RV campsites with lakefront, premium and cabana site options, plus 35 vacation rentals: 12 two-bedroom cottages with kitchenettes, 18 studio bungalows and 2 contemporary Airstream rentals. The resort’s vacation rental inventory has grown by 50% since the property’s original opening in 2023, the Florida and Alabama RV Park and Campground Association said.

Blue Water Development Corp. acquired the former Lazy Lakes RV Resort in 2021 and invested more than $14 million in a full redevelopment, including new roadways, a new tiki structure, renovated bath house, renovated welcome center, upgraded pool, full utility infrastructure and landscaping throughout the seven-acre saltwater lake property. The resort opened to the public in October 2023 and rebranded to Sugarloaf Key RV Resort & Cottages in April 2025 under Blue Water’s independent brand. Since opening, the resort has expanded its vacation rental inventory by 50%, adding new cottage and Airstream accommodations.

This summer, Sugarloaf RV Resort & Cottages has a full season of programming for guest entertainment. The resort is launching “Local Loafers,” a themed weekend series running June, July and August. June kicks off with a Casino Night weekend, July brings Christmas in July and August closes the series with Halfway to Mardi Gras. Each entertainment weekend will feature the Oasis Airstream Snack Shack alongside the festivities. The resort is also planning World Cup watch parties for matches played in Miami, giving guests a chance to catch the action together on property.

Beyond these planned events, guests can enjoy live music programming spotlighting regional artists, kayaking and paddle boarding on the resort’s seven-acre saltwater lake, a year-round pool, the Oasis Tiki Bar and access to local outdoor adventures through the area partner network, the association said. Full event programming is updated at sugarloafkeyrvresort.com/events.

Member Park of the Year Award Criteria

Award recipients demonstrate excellence across their business, staff and guest interactions, as reflected in reviews and ratings, the association said. Winning parks are well maintained and provide quality facilities, amenities and guest services with a consistent record of guest satisfaction. In addition to operational excellence, honorees show ongoing efforts to improve and enhance the guest experience. Equally important, the recipients are active, engaged members of the Florida and Alabama RV Park and Campground Association — demonstrating loyalty, leadership and commitment to the association’s mission of advancing the Outdoor Hospitality Industry in Florida or Alabama.
