2025 RV PRO RVeterans Honoree John Larson
Owner and Technician, Nevada Mobile RV Service, 44 years in the industry

John’s game is RV repairs and service, including managing parts orders and talking to customers to help solve their problems. He has been an RVTI Master Certified RV Technician for over 20 years.
In what ways has John gone above and beyond for Nevada Mobile RV Service?
John was in the “National RV Top Tech Challenge” in 2017 and 2019 (put on by RVTI) and won second place both times. He has incredible patience and willpower to figure out issues that other techs give up on, his nominator says. John helps RV manufacturers with issues, including going to a manufacturing facility to show them the problem along with prototypes he made of their other production items. This company changed their production and integrated some of his ideas, his nominator says. John is a wealth of knowledge.
How does John’s tenure and experience contribute to the company?
John’s impact is all over North America, his nominator says. He gets referrals from Norcold, Dometic and others for present, discontinued and obsolete parts, as well as repairs that are out of the norm. With decades of experience, RV shops/techs from as far as South America to Labrador, Canada, call him for advice on complicated repairs. He is the backbone of Nevada Mobile RV Service, a sole proprietor. He is well-known and respected by the community and was awarded No. 1 RV business in his county.
How does John mentor or support other employees?
John has helped 11 other RV technicians open their own mobile RV services. He “designed his own competition,” his nominator says. He has no employees; he just mentors the other guys and helps as many of them as possible with his knowledge, parts and/or experience on how to do the job right.
What else should we know about John?
Virtually every major RV appliance manufacturer knows and refers to John by name, his nominator says. He is also involved in numerous wildlife organizations — especially “Ducks Unlimited” as a past state chairman and treasurer of the Nevada chapter. He is currently co-chairman for the Carson Valley Ducks Unlimited Chapter. John and his wife, Patti, are recognized as “Major Ducks Unlimited Sponsors,” giving donations to support wetlands and wildlife conservations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
From John
What has it meant to work in the RV industry this long?
After 44 years of working on RVs and being an RVIA/RVTI Master Certified RV technician for 24-plus years, I have watched the evolution of the RV industry. I have seen good quality RVs and products, and unfortunately the opposite. Having that experience, I have only offered my clientele the highest quality of parts and service. I can help customers, whether their RV is 50 years old or five months old, because of this experience. Many of the old-time RV product manufacturers have been referring customers to me for decades, and some appliance manufacturers refer customers to me because we have decades of RV appliance parts. We are now manufacturing replacement parts for some Norcold refrigerators.
What advice do you have for those just starting their careers?
Because of the continuous evolution of the RV industry, my suggestion to the people that are new into the industry is learn as much as you can … old and new. Take advantage of every opportunity you have to go to a technical training class, webinar or RV rallies where there will be representatives from product manufacturers. I strongly recommend the RVTI technical training.
