Hershey Show To Feature Boondocking, Essential Systems Seminars

Hershey Show

Dave Helgeson will lead two seminars during America’s Largest RV Show in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 10-14.

With a long history of RV dealers in his family, Helgeson says he was “born into it.” After growing up around RVs, Helgeson served as president of a local RV Dealers Association (RVDA) chapter as well as board member of the Manufactured Home and RV Association, advised an RV technician program at a technical school, and owned a dealership with his wife, Cheri. Today, he is an expert RV writer and instructor traveling around the country.

During the Hershey Show, Helgeson will present two seminars: “Boondocking 101: Finding A Place To Camp” and “Beginner’s Guide To RVing – An Introduction to Essential Systems.”

According to Helgeson, the boondocking seminar is a good fit for anyone with a sense of adventure. “[Boondocking] brings back the freedom RVing was made to be,” he says. The advantage? Saving money, more solitude and overall added flexibility.

While all rigs are equipped to boondock, many people don’t know where to start or are afraid to. In the educational session, Helgeson hopes to remove fear around boondocking by covering:

  • What boondocking is
  • Finding public land to camp
  • Mapping your stay
  • Regulations and safety
  • Any questions the audience has

As for the beginner’s session, audience members don’t need to own an RV to attend. In Helgeson’s experience, many who come to his essential systems seminars are often trying to gauge whether they could own and understand a rig.

The seminar may also be helpful for those who bought an RV in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many consumers purchased RVs but were unable to get full walkthroughs due to social distancing regulations. Because of this, many RVers may still have unanswered questions about their vehicle.

The educational session will go over:

  • Essential systems (propane, electrical, fresh water, etc.)
  • Individual appliances (water heater, cooling, etc.)
  • Your first campout
