The Community Foundation of Elkhart County’s board of directors has approved $1,311,976 in new grants to support nonprofit organizations serving Elkhart County, Indiana. The grants were approved at the board’s June meeting and span the Community Foundation’s three priority areas, as well as the Opportunity Fund, the organization said.
“These grants show what’s possible when organizations set aside turf and focus on what serves families best,” said Guy Fisher, chief program officer of the Community Foundation of Elkhart County. “The merger uniting CAPS and Maple City Health Care Center, and the support for Ronald McDonald House’s Rooftop Backyard Campaign, are both about making sure families going through hard seasons have somewhere steady to land.”
The grants approved at the June meeting include:
- Kids and Families grants totaling $854,452

- CAPS and Maple City Health Care Center, $500,000 for the merger of the two organizations
- Ronald McDonald House Charities of Indiana-Michiana, $200,000 challenge grant for the Rooftop Backyard Capital Campaign
Sixteen additional grants of $25,000 or less totaled $154,452:
- Career Pathways grants totaling $91,550
- Eight grants of $25,000 or less were awarded
- Placemaking grants totaling $53,500
- Eight grants of $25,000 were awarded
The Opportunity Fund provided $312,474 in grants. The 35 awards supported community sponsorships, memberships, and special opportunities that strengthen collaboration and civic engagement in Elkhart County.
The Community Foundation said it accepts Community Investment Grant applications twice a year, with deadlines in mid-February and mid-August. The next deadline is Aug. 21.
