2021 Preview: Dutchmen RV
The “wow factor” is in full force with Dutchmen’s new model year products, according to Matt Gipson, general manager of Coleman and Astoria at Dutchmen RV.
“There are bigger fireplaces, bigger TVs, more powerful speakers, and things that make living areas more user-friendly,” he says, adding, “While you will see a lot of upgrades, we did a lot of refining and polishing floor plans versus wholesale change.”
Dutchmen also trained its focus on improving kitchens and bathrooms, which Gipson says are becoming more of a focal point. “We added gizmos and gadgets, LED lights, tricking these units out the best we can while also being price-conscious,” he adds.
The RV maker offers updated backsplashes, pendant lights, sink covers, and hardware.
“We are trying to implement things found in residential homes into our products,” says Gipson.
General Manager Josh Staley of the Yukon and Atlas brands says more models offer 12-volt refrigerators or 110-volt residential refrigerators.
“The new Insignia oven has four burners and a huge oven,” he says. “It’s a residential-style oven that until now hasn’t been available for RV use.”
The Voltage luxury fifth wheel is the first toy hauler to receive the Insignia oven.
“One reason for the appliance upgrade is that we believe people will spend more time in their units and for longer periods of time,” Staley says. “Nobody’s getting on a plane or a cruise ship anytime soon. The more people travel and the longer they travel for, the more they will need residential-type appliances.”
The new Voltage Triton 12 sleeps 12 people.
“We recognize people aren’t just camping with their immediate family – they’re bringing extended family along, too,” Staley says. Dutchmen carries the new paint scheme, introduced with the Voltage in 2020, to its other toy haulers in 2021. The paint scheme mimics the rich graphics and wraps of promotional and racing trailers. “Toy haulers attract a more radical type of buyer, so we wanted our toy haulers to have more of racing feel,” Staley says.
In 2020, all Colemans received as large a window as possible in the kitchen and living room. “That’s something we’re continuing to explore and we’re doing that by model,” Gipson says.
Dutchmen centered the Yukon lineup around a new bathroom-bedroom setup.
“So far, every floorplan we’ve done for Yukon has the biggest bathroom in the RV industry. It’s got a walk-in shower, a separate toilet room, a dual vanity sink, and a washer-dryer cabinet,” Staley says.
Dutchmen made trailers a little longer to make room for larger bathrooms without affecting tow vehicle size. By moving the washer-dryer cabinet into the bathroom, Staley says it opened up the front cap area.
“Normally this area just had a wardrobe, but now we can add a chest of drawers, too,” he adds. “There’s full-width hanging space and a pullout hamper. At the foot of the bed, the change allowed us to do a full entertainment center with a 50-inch TV and a fireplace.”
Dutchmen also added storage to Yukon models. The units offer larger kitchen islands, more countertop space, and more cabinet space. Adding the larger bathroom increased the back- deck size, which allowed designers to add pass-through storage.
“Every single unit will come with a sliding tray in that pass-through storage,” Staley says.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Kodiak introduces the “ultra-aggressive-price-point SE series,” says Aaron Young, general manager of the Kodiak and Aspen Trail line. “This series sticks to the necessities of camping to keep it competitively priced and attract more buyers to the RV/camping lifestyle.”
Kodiak Ultra-Lights now come with blackout roller shades on windows, are Wi-Fi-ready, and come with a solar roof prep. Most models also come with LED fireplaces and a 12-volt, 10-cubic-foot refrigerator as an option.
The company added four new floorplans: The Kodiak SE 27SBH with a hidden pantry and bunk house; the single-axle Kodiak Cub 196BH bunkhouse model with outside kitchen; the Kodiak Ultra-Lite 242RBSL, which features a hidden pantry and rear bath; and the Kodiak Ultimate 3371FLSL, which has a front living room and a king-size bed slide.
“The Aspen Trail underwent a complete transformation of its interiors,” Young says. “New, modern gray woods and white countertops give it a fresh clean look that follows today’s housing trends.”
The 2021 Aspen Trail offers blackout roller shades on living area windows, wood window accents in the living areas, a hidden pantry/hinged entertainment center in many floor plans, larger windows, LED fireplaces in many models, and a 12-volt, 10-cubic foot refrigerator.
The 2021 Aspen Trail LE has wood window accents in the living area, a hidden pantry/hinged entertainment center in many floorplans, larger windows throughout, LED fireplaces in many models, and a 12-volt, 10-cubic foot refrigerator.
Aspen Trail also is introducing the 2760THS and 3250THS toy haulers to its lineup. Each toy hauler comes equipped with a party patio deck system and 50-amp service standard.
